Day trip from Chau Doc to Cham minority village - Fish farm - Sam Mountain - Tuc Dup Hill.
See itinerary for full details.
- Duration: 1 day(s)
- Location: Chau Doc (Viet Nam)
First, we take a ride cruising to floating market, the floating village (fish farm) and Cham minority village for a visit to the weaving workshop, which makes traditional wears (sarongs and towels). Then back to Chau Doc for a visit to Chua Xu Lady's temple and cave pagoda at the foot of Sam Mountain.
The next destination will be Cam Mountain - the highest mountain in the Mekong Delta. On the way there, you can enjoy the sights of the two rice fields along the road, and drop by for a short visit to a small Khmer village. You will have a van up on the mountainside to visit the biggest buddha statue in MEkong Delta, Van Linh pagoda and the daily life of mountain people. Lunch will be served on the way to Tuc Dup hill.
It is then onto Tuc Dup (the Two Million Dollar Hill) is a bold hill deep in the Mekong Delta where between late 1968 and early 1969 was defended against overwhelming odds. The defenders kept the full force of the American army at bay for 128 days of continuous bombardment. Two million is said to be the cost of the firepower the Americans used in their vain attempt to capture this isolated stronghold. Explore freely around the hidden caves interconnected by a labyrinth of natural tunnels and paths, underground meeting rooms, hospital, living quarters, stores and command H.Q. (most have been fully restored).
After this, we head back for Sam Mountain to admire the grand view of the Mekong Delta from the peak, and enjoy watching the sunset towards Cambodia. We then head back to Chau Doc.
